My vision is to create a building like no other. Bringing together world-class architecture with our ambition to constantly innovate for people and for the future. To build an icon not just for Hong Kong, but also for the world.”

AN ICON
AMONGST ICONS

A quote from Dr. Martin Lee, Chairman of the Henderson Land Group.

What a simply magnificent building that opened recently in the Central Business District in Hong Kong, I cannot stop taking photographs of it! Hong Kong has no shortage of amazing and iconic buildings but in my humble opinion, this one simply cannot be beat.

It is not particularly tall at just 36 floors, it is dwarfed by the Bank of China behind it and also Cheung Kong Centre which is next to the Bank of China but I will tell you what the architect nailed it with such an eye popping design.

Henderson Land is pretty famous in Hong Kong in a non flashy way but that will change with the opening of this iconic building, it is odd, it has no impact on the skyline when looking across Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island, the large buildings surrounding The Henderson are very visible but not this building, it does however dominate the area when you get up close when standing in Chater Garden or walking down Garden Road.

To put thing into context, see the image below of the old Murray Road carpark, Henderson Land paid US$3 Billion (with a B) just for the plot of land in 2017 beating eight competitors for the first plot of land offered for sale by the Government for 20 years.

The Henderson was slated to open in 2022 but did not in fact open until very recently, it has been worth the wait and I watched it being built as my spot for car photography is where you see the white car in the image below, I knew something special was going to be built.

This was the building that was on the site of The Henderson and was iconic in its own way!

AN ICON
AMONGST ICONS

“The Henderson is Hong Kong’s boldest new architectural masterpiece. The city’s most spectacular commercial development in Central, the most sought-after location in the world.

Exceptional and unforgettable, The Henderson will deservedly take its place among the world’s most iconic buildings — an icon amongst icons.

The form of The Henderson was inspired by the bud of the bauhinia flower, the symbol of Hong Kong. Designed by world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, it is a bud that is about to blossom, reflecting our aspiration for The Henderson to represent a new chapter in our vision, from legacy to future.”

This is a quote from the website on what the building design was based on

So there you go, the Lee family behind Henderson Land are the second richest family in Hong Kong according to the Forbes 2025 Billionaire list and this building fits very nicely with their image, this really is a building for the ages and if you visit Hong Kong, go to Chater Garden which is next to Statue Square in the Central Business District and take some pictures.
