Book The Best 5 - 8 hour Premium Quality Private Layover | Transit Tour of Amazing Hong Kong Today!
Maximise your limited amount of transit time, I will pick you up and drop you off at Hong Kong International Airport
“For long haul passengers the worst part of venturing abroad is the long, multi-flight journey it takes to get there. Whether you’re planning a summer sojourn in Europe, a white Christmas in the USA or an exotic holiday in South East Asia, you’ll likely have a connecting flight with a layover of between 5 hours and 24 hours at some point on your journey.
If you have a layover of 8 hours + you will find the airports to be often boring and filled with sub-par airport snacks, duty-free shopping and a seemingly-endless wait in a gate lounge, long connections can be turned into a truly wonderful sightseeing experience – if you happen to be transiting in the right airport. A long layover doesn’t have to mean idle time, it’s an opportunity to add an extra destination to your trip.
Hong Kong is the right Airport to be in transit, Immigration and baggage collection formalities are super efficient, there is a large left luggage facility in the arrivals hall and if you take the Airport Express Train from the arrivals hall in Hong Kong International Airport you can be in the middle of the Hong Kong Central Business District in 30 minutes and 20 minutes later after a short taxi ride, be at the Lugard Road Lookout at Victoria Peak for the greatest panoramic city view in the world!”

One of my favourite images that I have taken, the greatest panoramic city view in the world from the Lugard Road Lookout (or Jamie’s spot as I have been there 6,000+ times) at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong
How can you NOT come to Hong Kong and miss out on the best panoramic city view in the world, this one spot makes it all worthwhile! Please note that a lot of tour companies in Hong Kong will NOT take you to this place which is called the Lugard Road Lookout, they will take you to the Peak Tower Sky Terrace 428 Viewing Platform, The Peak Galleria Roof or the Lions Pavilion Lookout which do NOT have a 180 degree panoramic city view and in fact only show about half the view.
Please note that the Hong Kong Government does NOT provide Free City Tours of Hong Kong, as far as I know you can do free city tours in Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei in Asia but NOT Hong Kong. I imagine that you will have to cover personal expenses and book well in advance and I am pretty sure there are lots of rules and regulations that come with a Government Sponsored Free Tour! and a phrase I always refer to is “you get what you pay for” please bear this in mind.

Make the most of your Airport Layover | Transit Time when you stop off in Hong Kong on your way to somewhere else and book a 5 - 8 hour transit tour with Airport Pick Up and Drop Off.
I have done hundreds of transit tours since 2011 with guests arriving at Hong Kong International Airport.
Please do factor in the 45 - 60 minutes needed to complete immigration and baggage formalities when you arrive at Hong Kong International Airport and remember you need to be at the Airport 90 minutes before your departing flight. Please note I am always aware of timing on my transit tours!
I am an expert in organising short transit tours for single travellers, couples, families and small groups with pick up and drop off at the fabulous Hong Kong International Airport - my private transit tours are perfect for those who are in Hong Kong for a quick layover and would rather see the best that Hong Kong has to offer as opposed to sitting at Starbucks or McDonald’s for 5 or 8 hours or sleeping on a hard seat and I would suggest it also beats hanging around in an Airline’s First Class Lounge!
you should allow 45 - 60 minutes to complete customs and immigration formalities prior to us meeting in the Arrivals Hall, I have to say that Immigrations and baggage formalities are handled extremely efficiently.
there is a very reasonably priced luggage storage facility located in Arrival Hall A if needs be... and right next to escalators which conveniently go up to the Departures Hall - it is opposite the Pret A Manger store.
As mentioned the Business / Cultural / Colonial district on Hong Kong Island is just 30 minutes away on the Airport Express Train from the Airport, yes the train station is in the arrivals hall! and yes I am well aware that the train only takes 24 minutes but you still need to walk to train platform and often wait 5 minutes for a train!
you need to be back at the Airport 90 minutes before your connecting flight and also factor in time to collect left luggage (which should not take more than 5 minutes) and complete check in formalities.
At the end of the tour I have absolutely no problem getting you back to the Airport on the Airport Express Train but if you wish you can simply ask me to put you back onto the Airport Express Train at Hong Kong Station or Kowloon Station, the train stops in the Departures Hall at Hong Kong International Airport and in my vast experience the train is utterly reliable.
I can pick you up as early as 7.30am from the Airport by the way.
I set the transit tour time at 5 to 8 hours starting from the time I pick you up at the airport to the time I drop you off - oh and just so we are clear I pick you up at the airport and I make sure I get you back there on time to meet your connecting flight, I have never, ever had an issue with this! I can also handle a 4 hour tour by the way, I have done a few of those!
In terms of what we will do in this short space of time, well (as an example), we will hop on the Airport Express Train which will drop us in the middle of the business district on Hong Kong Island and we will go up to Victoria Peak from there it is down to Statue Square and a quick walk to the Star Ferry for the iconic Ferry ride over to Kowloon and a chance to get some great images of the world class view across the Harbour of Hong Kong Island…
Next it is onto the MTR (Subway) via the Peninsula Hotel and perhaps a quick visit to the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple or the Mong Kok Street Markets before catching the train back to Hong Kong International Airport.
As this is a custom private tour of Hong Kong please be assured that I will do my very best to fit in stuff you might wish to do on your layover tour.
I should point out that often my transit tours encompass both day and night, the timing is not an issue for me, one of my popular layover tours is pick up at 2pm and drop off at 10pm! I work according to your flight schedule.
Please note that I am able to do a Private Layover Tour to the Big Buddha and subject to time, the Tai O Fishing Village both on Lantau Island (as is the airport) but still a long, way a way from Hong Kong International Airport.
… and as mentioned above this is a private tour and I do not work to a fixed itinerary, I am a veteran of over 2,330+ private tours and flexibility is my middle name, I can accommodate special requests (subject to time constraints) or you can leave it in my capable hands.
Please also note that :
There are plenty of options to take a very comfortable double decker bus from the Airport to many parts of Hong Kong but please bear in mind, they stop many times on the route and are subject to traffic conditions, whilst somewhat cheaper than the Airport Express Train, I personally do not see any real advantage of taking a bus but I am very flexible, if a bus ride is on your agenda then that is what we will do!
Taxis are also an option but they are much more expensive than the Airport Express Train to get to Hong Kong Island and subject to long waits and traffic conditions, I would NOT recommend us taking taxis to get into town on our transit tour
I do NOT do car tours, it is very expensive to hire a car and seeing Hong Kong from the back of a car is NOT an experience I would recommend. If for any reason you wish to do a car tour then please let me know and I will send you the details of some amazing tour companies (and my friends) who do, do car tours.
Me. Jamie, 53 years living in Hong Kong and counting!
I am a Yorkshireman and English, we should have no communication problems!
My insider tip 1
If you change currency at Hong Kong International Airport you will lose 10% at least on the transaction compared to the money changer I use for US$ transactions in town. I am not saying the money exchange place in the Airport is doing anything wrong, they simply pay a very high price to get the licence to operate and take advantage of the fact that they are probably the one option you have to change money at the Airport.
My insider tip 2
Please note that in general if you book a tour on Viator or Tripadvisor you generally have NO control over what guide will lead your layover tour and this is the most important component of the tour. I urge you to check the actual company website and book via their website and do not forget to read Tripadvisor reviews as well.
My insider tip 3
My Private Tours are a combination of walking and using public transport and we go at a pace that suits you, I have never owned or driven a car in Hong Kong and I am somewhat of an expert on public transport, you want to know what makes Hong Kong tick well, travelling on the subway, buses, ferries, trams etc gives you that insight an insight you will not get sat in the back of a car and it enables us to cover a lot more ground on our tour.
