Photo of the day No. 5 - The Pink Rolls Royce Phantom

Hong Kong Culture at it‛s finest - and WOW!

The iconic Pink Rolls Royce Phantom with the licence plate DEBORAH and the young lady in the photo is Deborah a famous socialite in Hong Kong

The first time I saw this car during the day was on May 8th 2014 and WOW, was I startled! I knew the licence plate as I had photographed the previous car which was a pink Ferrari (groans, head shakes and tutting all round).

This particular image I took in November 2015 and I actually got a smile from Deborah no doubt assuming I was an easy to impress tourist, seriously though, she is one classy lady.

The Rolls Royce Phantom is an iconic car but Rolls Royce have a policy of making things happen when it comes to pimping out their cars and strange whims of rich clients are indulged without question. Personally I love it even if it is just a teeny weeny bit gauche, it certainly stops traffic and there is lots of finger pointing from gobsmacked citizens.

For over 10 years now the car has been a fixture in Central which is the Hong Kong Business District and the car can be seen almost daily outside Princes Building on Chater Road and also on Wellington Street which is also in Central but unlike celebrity sightings in most cities around the world, the press do not seem overly concerned about tracking the movements of Deborah, the socialite owner., no burly minders or bodyguards for this young lady, just the chauffeur.

I think the reason I am so taken with this car is it is shades of Lady Penelope of the Thunderbirds show fame in the mid 1960’s. she had a glorious pink car as well and lets not forget the Barbie influence.

Deborah who is Mexican is rather magnificent isn't she! her full name is Deborah Hung and she has a thing for Barbie and is married to a billionaire called Stephen Hung who also has a magnificent collection of cars (which I have photographed) although in recent years his billionaire status is in question with rumours of a bit of financial strife, rumours I might add and that’s all, they make for a very stylish “over the top” couple and I admire them for that as a lot of Hong Kong Billionaires are very low profile and ride around in a 7 seater Toyota Alphard

So there you go, if you are in the Central Business District around lunchtime chances are you will see this car! have your phone camera ready!

HKG Car Licence Plate - DEBORAH | Licence Plate sold for US$640 or HK$5,000

Finally, they maybe ultra wealthy but they paid almost nothing for the custom licence plate but back then in 2012 when the plate first appeared on a Ferrari there was not much interest in vanity plates as such, things have changed.
